Club Echo Scores
Home Run

Westchester Arc’s Club Echo recently traveled to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, where six men with developmental disabilities watched the New York Yankees swing to victory against the Kansas City Royals.

While at the game, the guys participated in all traditions associated with “America’s favorite pastime.” They wore Yankee caps and tee shirts, sang the national anthem and danced to “Cotton Eyed Joe” during the seventh inning stretch. Of course, no ball game would be complete without peanuts and Cracker Jacks.

Kevin D. and Recreation Specialist Annabel Bayon display their Yankee pride.

Jose G., Edwin W. and Jody Campbell, senior program manager of recreational and respite services, root for the home team.

“Everyone was really excited to be at the game,” recalls Jody Campbell, senior program manager of recreational and respite services. “All of the guys are hardcore baseball fans and, for some, this is the only chance they have to experience a live game. Plus, the activity promoted inclusion. Being part of a large crowd who are all rooting for the same team is a real bonding experience.”

Sean H. has been attending baseball games with Club Echo for over 10 years. An avid fan, he knows each player’s name, number, batting average and position. During the game, he kept close tabs on the score and sprang to his feet every time Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and other favorite players nailed a hit.

Fellow fans appreciated Sean’s energy. “You and your friends had more fun than anyone else in the entire stadium,” said one Yankee enthusiast.
