The Case of the Model Employee

Working at law firm Poppolardo, Tombini, and Wolff has helped Joey L. expand his work skills and increase his
self-esteem.


“When Joey first started working with us, he was very shy,” comments partner Michelle Tombini. “Today, he is a confident young man, who looks forward to meeting new people.”

Internship Leads to Full Time Employment

Joey came to the firm through an internship program at Southern Westchester’s Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). Initially, he worked a few days a week and performed data entry. “There wasn’t a single key stroke error in his work,” notes Office Manager Phyllis Brigantino. Upon graduating from BOCES, Joey was hired as a full-time employee through Westchester Arc’s supportive employment program.

Westchester Arc works with over 250 local businesses, schools and government agencies to provide ongoing job opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Westchester Arc Helps Joey Tone Work Skills and Build Relationships
with Co-Workers

 “Within three months of working with job coach C.J. Santoianni, Joey grew more confident in his work and in himself, “ notes Michelle. “He was doing such a great job, we decided to expand his job responsibilities. In addition to data entry, Joey now:

  • Opens mail and categorizes legal documents
  • Uses the high-tech copy and fax machines
  • Downloads legal files from the Internet
  • Collates documents for real estate closings

“I love working at Poppolardo, Tombini and Wolff,” says Joey. “I like sharing special occasions and having lunch with my co-workers. We’re like family.”
