Recreational

Recreational services offer teens and adults with developmental disabilities an opportunity to make friends, have fun and learn at the same time.

Westchester Arc designs leisure activities that relieve stress, teach and reinforce social skills, and build self-esteem. Participants can explore the arts or the Jersey Shore. Go camping or dance the night away at our Spring Ball.

Echo Arts

Echo Arts is a visual arts program, held throughout the year for individuals who are at least 16 years of age. Students express themselves through a wide range of media, including paint, pencil and collage. They are encouraged to submit their best work to the Westchester Arc Annual Art Show each spring. It is a juried competition and prizes are awarded to the winners.

Echo Onstage

Echo Onstage is a week-long theater arts program provided in partnership with Westco Productions. Role-playing, improvising and learning dance routines build social, verbal and coordination skills. The workshop culminates in a performance for family and friends.

CAMP

Camp Echo offers individuals who are no longer in high school an opportunity to enjoy summer in the beautiful woods of Fahnestock State Park in Putnam County. Options include day camp, as well as one- and two-week overnight programs. Activities include swimming, boating crafts, sports, hiking, nature study and special events.

Echo Outdoors, designed for high school students, 16 and older, is a week-long, overnight program at the Taconic Outdoor Education Center (TOEC) in Fahnestock State Park.

FAMILY SUPPORT

Respite House
This program is designed to give a well-deserved break to families caring at home for a person with developmental disabilities. Open every day, Respite House in Thornwood, New York, is available for planned overnight visits. We also have one bed available for an individual in crisis. Participating individuals must also attend a day program.
Recreational and social events are planned by staff based on visitor interests, needs and capabilities. Staff are trained in first aid, CPR, behavior management, interdisciplinary team approach, adaptive equipment and fire safety. Fees are based on a sliding scale which allows us to provide respite to all families, regardless of financial limitations.

Independent Living Skills

This program offers basic instruction in shopping, cooking, menu planning and cleaning skills.  The aim is to began preparing individuals for future residential life away from family.

LEISURE

Reunion Club
This program provides short breaks for families caring at home for a person with developmental disabilities. The Reunion Club meets three times a month, for approximately five hours at a time. The participants enjoy getting together with friends, while increasing their life skills. Favorite activities have included dinner and dancing, bowling, movies and trips to New York City. Individuals pay a fee of $5 (certain trips may be slightly higher.)

TRAVEL

Club Echo offers vacation trips, ranging from one to eight days, to individuals who are at least 18 years of age. Day trips are taken to sporting events, theaters and other local attractions. Longer trips have destinations ranging from New England and the mid-Atlantic states to Florida, the Bahamas and beyond. There are also opportunities for individuals to help plan their own vacations.
