We provide encouragement and support, while working to increase the person’s capacity to achieve personal goals and to live as independently as possible.
Through interviews, basic questionnaires and standardized tests, such as PICS (Picture Interest Career Survey) and the McCarran Dial Street Survival Skills Questionnaire, a personalized rehabilitation plan is developed. Based on personal career goals, we perform a job analysis, then assess an individual’s functional abilities/strengths, education, training, work history(paid/volunteer/ internship), interests and personality traits.
Although sessions are generally done on a one-to-one basis, family sessions, as well as meetings with more than one clinician, are also available.
For those whose ultimate goal is employment, finding the right job can be daunting. We help individuals search for opportunities in newspapers and on the Internet. Together, we create a personal job portfolio including a resume, cover letter, thank you notes and notable honors. Sessions also teach interview techniques, time management and office etiquette.
Sometimes an individual requires a little extra support at work. While an onsite job coach helps a person understand his or her job tasks and responsibilities, the job coach is not trained to mediate issues in the workplace. On-the-job counseling and sessions at the agency’s 121 Westmoreland,Yonkers and Mt. Kisco locations help individuals get past common issues such as tardiness, respecting co-workers and not completing job tasks. We also provide tips for reducing job stress, which can include techniques such as deep breathing, head and shoulder rolls and short walks.
