Physical Therapy

Westchester Arc’s physical therapy services focus on enhancing a person’s fitness level and increasing his/her range of mobility.

State-certified therapists develop a personalized plan that helps many people:

  • improve balance and coordination

  • strengthen joints and bones/ improve muscle tone

  • increase circulation

  • enhance posture

  • decrease post-surgical discomfort

  • relieve respiratory symptoms caused by asthma or upper respiratory conditions

  • move about on their own

To ensure the highest level of independence, we offer comprehensive home visits. During one-on-one-sessions, therapists show individuals how to adapt to their physical surroundings—from getting in and out of bed to negotiating stairs and uneven surfaces. They also devise an in-home exercise program to help a person stay healthy.

In addition, therapists work with a person’s physician to prescribe adaptive equipment (such as a wheelchair or walker) that will encourage additional movement and improve quality of life.
