Golfing for Kids Scores Hole in One

Keith and Jazmine Cox Honored

WHITE PLAINS, NEW YORK - June 10, 2008 – The eighth annual “Golfing for Kids” benefit, held on June 3 at the Westchester Hills Golf Club in White Plains, raised over $100,000 for pre-schoolers with developmental disabilities as well as an additional $23,000 toward the purchase of a new van. Two hundred guests enjoyed a day on the green that included gourmet meals and mouth-watering cocktails during the event hosted by the Westchester Arc Foundation and The Children’s School for Early Development. Special guest Scott Clark--Emmy award winning ABC News sportscaster—drew cheers from the golfers as he proclaimed the event, “out of this world!”

The evening’s awards banquet honored Keith and Jazmine Cox of South Salem for their commitment to children with developmental disabilities and their families. The Cox’s are longtime supporters of Westchester Arc and their community involvement extends to many organizations in the Bronx, where Keith Cox is the owner of Cox Nissan.

Keith credited The Children’s School for helping his daughters have such a positive pre-school experience. “All of the staff members were so dedicated to my daughters. You won’t find that kind of support anywhere else,” he said. An emotional Jazmine echoed her husband’s sentiments. “Being in The Children’s School really helped my daughters grow. The bond they established with their teachers and other staff members was such an important part of their education. We are so grateful to The Children’s School and its staff and are really lucky to be surrounded by such a wonderful group of people.”

Guests also participated in auctions—winning vacations in Ireland and Maine, tickets to sporting events, a taping of Saturday Night Live, and other fabulous items. One lucky winner claimed a dazzling Caribbean cruise.

“This was our best Golfing for Kids yet!” exclaimed Children’s School Director Fran Porcaro. “Money raised here tonight will help The Children’s School continue to provide innovative educational and support services to over 200 children with developmental disabilities helping them achieve their true potential. Thank you all—so very much—for being such great friends.”

Westchester Arc is the oldest and largest agency in the county serving children and adults with developmental disabilities such as autistic spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, mental retardation, cerebral palsy and learning disabilities. The agency has long been committed to social inclusion because of the benefits to the entire community.
