Press Release

22nd Annual MBIA Invitational
Continues Tradition of Giving

WHITE PLAINS, NY – September 21, 2006 – The twenty-second annual MBIA Invitational, a golf and tennis classic, raised $300,000 on September 18 in support of services for children and adults with developmental disabilities.  All proceeds will go to the Westchester Arc Foundation and Special Olympics Hudson Valley. Since the first MBIA Invitational in 1985, over $6 million has been raised for these two organizations.

The event drew a sell-out crowd, with almost 400 participants hitting the links and tennis courts at Anglebrook Golf Club, Mount Kisco Country Club and Whippoorwill Club.

Gary Dunton, MBIA CEO and event co-chair, gave his personal thanks to all for participating in the event, many of whom have attended for two decades. “The support of our friends and colleagues in the financial services industry has been outstanding. It is truly an honor to be part of a business community that understands the need to put work aside for a day to contribute to something much bigger than ourselves."

Anne Sweazey, executive director of the Westchester Arc Foundation, also expressed appreciation. "The MBIA Invitational provides vital support for our services,” she commented. “We are so thankful to MBIA and its staff for their continued dedication to enriching the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.”

Celebrities in attendance included sports legends Ralph Branca, Emerson
Boozer and Rusty Staub.

A highlight of the evening was presentation of the annual Charles R. Kingsley Award to the Shaw family of Croton-on-Hudson for their longtime activism on behalf of individuals with disabilities. Chris and Anne Shaw have been supporters of Westchester Arc since their son, Ned, started pre-school classes at the agency’s pre-school.

“Ned really blossomed at The Children’s School,” says his mother. “This fall, he is attending a typical first grade class in our home school district.”

Westchester Arc is the largest family-focused agency in the county serving people of all ages who have disabilities such as autistic spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, mental retardation, cerebral palsy and learning disabilities. Established over 55 years ago, the agency has long advocated community inclusion for individuals with disabilities, consistent with personal wishes and capabilities.

Special Olympics Hudson Valley is a year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for individuals with disabilities.
