Hitachi has awarded $5,000 in grants to Westchester Arc’s S.T.A.R. (Students in Transition Accessing Resources) program. S.T.A.R. partners with public high schools to prepare young adults, 15 and over, for the adult work world.
Westchester Arc was one of 40 recipients chosen from hundreds of applicants.
“We are very grateful to Hitachi for its generosity and corporate citizenship. By awarding this grant, the company recognizes the innovation of the S.T.A.R. program and its service to the community in training students to hold responsible jobs. We thank Hitachi for their partnership,” comments Anne Sweazey, executive director of the Westchester Arc Foundation.
The program provides many benefits. S.T.A.R. career planners work with students, their families and school faculty to develop a personalized plan that identifies interests and capabilities, then locates internships and post-graduate opportunities. Students also receive pre-vocational training and onsite job coaching to help adapt skills to employers’needs.
