How can kids with developmental disabilities be better prepared for middle school?

Nov 27, 2007 by Ric Swierat | 1 comments

What's it like for kids with developmental disabilities when they reach middle school? Those "aggressively social" years can be trying for any child. What special preparation do kids with developmental disabilities need to successfully navigate middle school and be included in school life? If Westchester Arc were to partner with schools or other community organizations to offer workshops preparing kids for this transition, what should be included? What is available now?

Middle school is a tough time for many kids. Those with developmental disabilities could use extra help with social skills so that they can participate better in school life.
