Treasurer Mark Glucksman and wife Roberta Leiber received the Family Award for their longtime activism.
Westchester Arc’s 58th annual meeting, held on June 13 at the Crowne Plaza, White Plains, focused on “Advocacy and Social Change,” with workshops tackling autism, special education and self-advocacy. Members elected new officers and board members, while self-advocates waged spirited campaigns for representation on their own customer service council. Anne Majsak, president, and Ric Swierat, executive director, highlighted the agency’s accomplishments, and Dr. Grant Mitchell, commissioner of the county’s Department of Community Mental Health, discussed the chaos caused by soaring autism rates. The event also recognized volunteers and community partners for their outstanding contributions to social inclusion. An art show, auction and musical performances rounded out the evening.

Dr. Grant Mitchell, commissioner of the county’s Department of Community Mental Health, urges public support systems to quit “pushing and shoving” and start working together to meet the vast needs of individuals with autism.
