Larry C.: Energetic at 84

Larry C. leads a full life. A talented painter, the 84-year-old has been named Westchester Arc’s “Artist of the Month” multiple times, and his work has appeared in several statewide art shows.

Larry recently retired from the agency’s maintenance department after over a dozen years of service and now spends his days dancing, playing billiards and traveling. Every year, he looks forward to a trip to the Hudson Valley Resort and Spa with longtime friend, Laureen F.

Though Larry remains an independent person, he is thankful for the support he receives from Westchester Arc’s guardianship services. Larry has enjoyed a “family-like” relationship with agency staff since 1997 and has found a new pal in Kim Kaiser, his guardianship advocate, whom he visits daily at the agency.

Larry enjoys a night out with longtime friend, Laureen F.

Kim helps him make important decisions and is an ear for the stories he’d like to share. Sometimes they dance in her office. She throws Larry birthday parties and is always there for him, no matter what day or time. “I love spending time at Westchester Arc,” says Larry. “I’ve made a lot of good friends here.”

Kim Kaiser, guardianship advocate, helps Larry make important decisions.

“Larry is such a caring person. He checks on me as much as I check on him,” confides Kim. “I was especially touched when he painted a picture for me. He knows he can come to me for anything and I think that gives him a sense of confidence. I'm happy to offer support wherever I can.”
